Opening Ceremony - May 9, 2005,
6pm - 8pm:
Mr.
Michel Guyot, French Consul of Culture & Science in
Hong Kong will officiate the opening ceremony and the artist, Ma Tselin
will be in attendance.
Ma
Tselin started painting Buddha in 1998 and since then he has been doing
just that and enjoys undisputable fame in Europe and around the world.
Born
in Guangdong, China in 1960, Ma was trained and
graduated from the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts of Beijing in
1983. He moved on to live in Paris, France two years later. In
1991, he graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts
Decoratifs in Paris.
Those
who have seen Ma's works will definitely remember
the texture that he captured and built on his canvases. He is a true
believer of the art philosopher, Elie Faure, who once said "The texture
in a painting is the whole painting and consequently the whole spirit."
Ma followed this Frenchman's advice and has never looked back.
He
began with depictions of chairs and mixed media
works with corks of wine bottles from early to mid 1990's but after Ma
found Buddha, the theme stays. Faces and statutes of Buddha from
different places have become the main source of his creativity. His
Buddha paintings are rich and resourceful. He is now known, as
"Buddha Ma" among his clients and friends and that may be his KARma
too.
