Those Were The Days

Ink Paintings by Jiang Yue

April 9 - April 28, 2010

Artists will be present in the Opening Reception on April 9, 2010 (Friday), 6-8pm

Nothing seems too trivial for Jiang Yue when he invites you to share some of the precious moments of his childhood in Those Were The Days exhibition, coming up in April at the new Soho space of Art Beatus Gallery on 50 Peel Street.

Born in Jilin Province in the Northeastern part of China, Jiang’s early days were spent in the midst of the mostly snow-bound northern country. Those days were sort of mind-numbing yet according to him quite eventful in many ways.

His relaxed ink painting style fits well with cheeky and happy-go-lucky theme of the exhibits. Stories narrated in the paintings are clean and innocent and the depiction is equally wholesome and uncomplicated.

The works illustrate scenes of some simple repetitive games that school children played at that time, tedious yet enjoyable waiting around for play buddies or for his first date, as well as the monotonous fun of just hanging out or doing some collective mischief.

Graduated from the Art Department of the Harbin Normal University in 1982, Jiang spent more than 15 years in the art publishing industry there before moving south and became the deputy director of the Guangdong Museum of Art in 2001. This is his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.

The exhibition runs from April 9th to 28th, 2010.  For details, please e-mail us at dyiu@artbeatus.com.hk or call either Dominic Chan at 2522-1138 or Josephine Hau at 2526-0818.
