PLS - Joint Exhibition of Printmaking

Featuring Works by Pauline Chan, Liz Lau, and Simon Lau

September 3 - 24, 2010

Artists will be present at the Opening Reception: Fri, September 3, 6pm - 8pm

Three curious strangers got acquainted with each other at the Hong Kong Open Printshop.  Seemingly, they have nothing in common, neither in background nor future goal.  They are together and share a common passion for printmaking.

Pauline, Liz and Simon have different perspectives and experiences in the past.  It is these inherited differences and tensions that helped to stimulate dialogues and exchanges among them and resulted in prints with strong identities and rigors.  In “PLS”, they will showcase their prints in one space, sharing these sparks with the audience.

Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing at the RMIT University in 2003, Pauline decided to continue to work as a part-time artist in Hong Kong. Pauline keeps on exploring various issues such as the sensations of the physical body; she created different parts of the body fragments by using plastic fabric and wire. While the experiment with the reconstruction and deconstruction of the physical body forms, since then Pauline has worked with different kind of media such as photography, printmaking and drawing. She has explored a wide range of materials in her work, including latex, plastic fabric, wire, prints and digital images. In the last 6 years, Pauline has participated in group shows in Australia, China, Russia and Hong Kong.

Liz was born in Hong Kong, but mostly raised in North America.  She returned to Hong Kong in 2004 and has lived here since.  Liz practices as an architect during weekdays, and tries to practice as a printmaker on her free time.  She joined Hong Kong Open Printshop as an intro-printmaking student back in 2007, and now currently participates an artist-in-residence.  She had her first solo printmaking show, 7 days, in 2009.

After graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (BA Computing programme) in 2007, Simon is currently studying a BA Fine Art programme in RMIT University, major in painting. His works were exhibited in Hong Kong and Canada.
