The mandate of Art Beatus is to promote international contemporary art
practice with a focus on contemporary Chinese art. In fact the practice of
contemporary Chinese art is about a negotiation with mainstream art
practice, and more importantly is not limited to Chinese artists only. In
an era of internationalism in visual arts, it is crucial that an active
cross-cultural dialogue be initiated in hope of broadening the established
discourses in contemporary art. The art of Beck & Al Hansen is largely
about the importance of process in art. By exhibiting Beck & Al Hansen at
Art Beatus, it is our objective to, first, bring an interesting exhibition
on contemporary art to the Vancouver pubic; second, to maintain a sense of
openness in interpreting contemporary art practice.
