Kiyoko
Yamaguchi
Kiyoko Yamaguchi was
trained as an architectural historian and worked
professionally as a university instructor. She
has depicted numerous Hong Kong street scenes to
express a simple happiness around old buildings
or streets in the midst of contemporary changes.
Yamaguchi received her bachelor degree in
Architecture from the University of California
at Berkeley and a doctorate degree from the
Kyoto University majoring in history of
architecture and urban planning in Southeast
Asia.
Gao Zengli
Gao Zengli’s paintings are his intimate memories or the lingering thoughts that refuse to leave his mind. He reconstructed these fragments of memory on his canvases, painting over broken pieces of porcelain wares or on hemp sackcloth that were once used to transport rice. The media that he used tell as many stories as the images on his paintings, that are the dialogues with himself as well as with his native country. Born in 1964, Gao has trained both in National Academy of Fine Arts in Shandong, China and the National Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France. He has lived and worked in Paris since 1997 and recently in Hong Kong as well.
Tien Chang
Tien Chang paints horses
almost exclusively. With minimal brush strokes,
he freezes the vitality of these four-legged
animals onto his works, regardless whether those
horses are standing on guard or galloping in
full vigour with flying manes and stretched out
hooves. Chang’s main interest is on capturing
and depicting their supremacy. Chang, originally
from Taiwan, now works and resides in Toronto,
Canada. He is now the vice-chairman of the
Chinese Association and a member of the Ontario
Chinese Artists Association. His works have been
shown extensively in Canada and China.
Ren Rong
Ren Rong’s creations resemble the century-old images of Chinese folk crafts of paper-cut. The imageries features human heads and plant bodies. In his works, viewers often see heads, hands and other human features extending from flexible and calligraphic plant bodies on thematic backgrounds. Born and educated in Nanjiang, Ren moved to study and work in Dusseldorf in 1989. He made his name in the adopted country. He said,"there is no construction without destruction; there is no making without breaking" and he will keep on deconstructing old concepts and breaking new grounds.
Water Poon
Periodically Water Poon
will have some innovative art pieces for his
fans. The paintings in this exhibition are his
personal reflections of the two cities that he
loves most, Hong Kong and Vancouver. The works
are his artistic interpretations of various
locations of these two places, filled with his
genuine emotions while impressionistically
delivered. Poon was born in Nanhai, China. He is
a Photographer, Designer and Film Director. His
photo journalistic works are well-known in Hong
Kong, Japan, Macau, China, Africa, India,
Thailand, Canada, U.S.A., Taiwan, Singapore,
Philippines. His painting exhibitions have been
held in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Taiwan,
Singapore, Tokyo, U.S.A., Canada.
Yang Dazhi
Yang Dazhi painted with vivid colours and attention to fine details. He aims at heightening the first impression on his viewers as well as spiking their childhood recollections. Born in 1977, Shenyang, China. Lives and works in Beijing, China. Yang teaches in the Department of Chinese Painting, Lu Xun Academy of Art, Liaoning Province, China.
Li Yibing
Born in the poorest part of rural Hebei in 1966, Li’s deprived childhood and harsh up-bringing have been urging him to search for peace and to create tranquillity in his works as these two “things” were definitely missing in the early part of his life. The “Meditation” series, was first shown in Art Beatus Gallery in 2007. Li’s persistent efforts in posing his chubby buddies at their happiest moment, eyes closed, contemplating and always desiring for something pleasurable that is forth-coming. Li said that with his works he aimed at providing a soft landing zone for the viewers amidst the chaos and conflicts that clustered our social environments these days.
